Possible Mobility Tracks

Students in the EMLDS program can choose from four mobility paths, each involving study at two universities and a rotating third semester:

  • Path 1: NOVA (Portugal) → UNIZAR (Spain) → Rotative → Student’s Choice
  • Path 2: UNICATT (Italy) → UNIZAR (Spain) → Rotative → Student’s Choice
  • Path 3: UNIGALWAY (Ireland) → NOVA (Portugal) → Rotative → Student’s Choice
  • Path 4: UNIGALWAY (Ireland) → UNICATT (Italy) → Rotative → Student’s Choice

This structure allows students to gain diverse academic exposure while immersing themselves in different cultures.

Description of the Program

The EMLDS is a 120 ECTS English-language master’s program that awards a Joint Degree. The curriculum is designed to bridge the gap between linguistics and emerging fields like artificial intelligence and machine learning. The key objectives are:

  • Enhancing the competitiveness of linguistics by integrating computer and data science.
  • Strengthening linguistic data science as an educational and research field.
  • Equipping students with the necessary tools to assess the ethical, technical, and social implications of linguistic data science.

The program includes four main components:

  1. Induction Days (on-site or blended learning)
  2. Coursework in Semesters 1 and 2 at the partner institutions
  3. Thematic Training Sessions & Orientation Seminar in Semester 3 (rotating among consortium members)
  4. Master’s Dissertation, Internship, or Project in Semester 4

Requirements for Admission

To be eligible for the EMLDS program, applicants must:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS) in a relevant field such as linguistics, computer science, data science, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrate English proficiency (B2.2 level), unless their previous degree was taught entirely in English.
  • Submit a complete application with the following documents:
    • Official academic records
    • CV highlighting academic and professional experience
    • Motivation letter (max. 1000 words)
    • Research proposal
    • Proof of English proficiency
    • Certificate of residence
    • Two letters of recommendation

Selection is based on:

  • Academic merit & professional experience (30%)
  • Motivation letter (25%)
  • Relevance of research proposal (25%)
  • Letters of recommendation (20%)

Top-ranked candidates (up to 25%) will be invited for an interview via Zoom.
